 American Food Is Tops In SurveyAmerican consumers typically choose - surprise - American food when going out to eat. According to a recent Harris poll, 28% of US adults say they are most likely to choose American food when going out to eat. Second was Italian with 22%. Following in third was Mexican (17%), with Chinese close behind in fourth (16%). Italian food won out in the East, and also seemed more popular with people with college education. Mexican food was most popular in the West and also - surprise again - most popular with the Hispanic population.  Wi-Pie in Twin Cities' Bakers Square RestaurantsThe 25 Bakers Square Restaurants in the Twin Cities area have added free Wi-Fi internet access for their customers. The service is called "Wi-Pie" - an homage to their specialty of baking pies. There is no word yet if and when the service would be rolled out to other locations - including the St Cloud Bakers Square. www.bakerssquarerestaurants.com  Taco Bell Expands to -- Mexico?Taco Bell is making its own run for the border, bringing its Americanized Mexican food to Mexico itself. They plan to open up to ten locations in 2008. Locals seem to be either angry or indifferent, preferring the distinct Mexican flavor of local tacos - commonly peddled on street corners. "It's like bringing ice to the Arctic," said pop culture historian Carlos Monsivais. Taco Bell plans to distance its offerings from traditional Mexican food. It's first store in Monterrey offers french fries and soft-serve. They plan to market the restaurants as 'something different'.  Riverboat Depot has a Smoking PatioIn reaction to the Minnesota Freedom to Breathe Act, the Riverboat Depot in Sartell has opened an outdoor patio for their smoking customers. The addition seats 28 people and has granite drink rails along with the patio furniture. There are even patio heaters for when the weather is colder. There is also a plan to add a TV. According to the act, smoking patios need to be 50% open. No service is allowed on the patio, but patrons can puchase drinks inside and take them out. www.health.state.mn.us/freedomtobreathe  RJ''s American Grill to Open in St CloudRJ''s American Grill is scheduled to open in mid-November by McStop on Clearwater Road. RJ''s Grill is owned by a couple from Prior Lake and will seat about 150 with a full bar and meeting room. The menu will be primarily American food - homemade pizza and burgers. |
